Reading Recovery Spring Award Season

Published On: April 6th, 2023 | Categories: Latest News |

If you are preparing to train to become a teacher leader or teacher next year, don’t miss your chance to apply for a financial award to help offset the cost of training! The Teacher Leader Training Award will support the training of Reading Recovery Teacher Leaders; the Teacher of Color Training Award will support the training of a Reading Recovery Teacher of Color.

Each spring, the Foundation for Struggling Readers grants financial awards to cover part of the cost of teacher leader and teacher training, thanks to generous donors. Distributing financial awards for professionals to engage in learning experiences is integral to bringing one of the most successful international reading and writing interventions to struggling readers across North America. In the fall, consider applying for the LitCon Professional Development Awards and Geri Stone Memorial Fund Award application to attend LitCon or fund needs in your district.

To apply for the Teacher Leader Training Award or Teacher of Color Training Award,  plan to fill out the application by May 12. First, you’ll need to confirm your active RRCNA membership. You’ll answer questions about both your community’s economic needs and your district’s academic needs, in addition to your literary leadership experience. The final part of the application comprises letters of recommendation and your implementation plan.

Looking back at her year, blogger and teacher leader-in-training Courtney Smith shared, “My training year has been wonderful. Thanks to the training award I have been able to attend LitCon and spend a weekend learning from the best of the best. The training gear itself at Clemson has been a lot of hard work and is very time consuming, but every minute spent reading and learning has been absolutely worth it. I have grown tremendously in my knowledge of early childhood literacy and have made wonderful new friends along the way.”

When asked what she would tell herself when applying for her award this time last year, Courtney said, “I would tell myself to just go for it. New things are scary but this journey is going to be worth it.” We can’t wait to see your application come through!
