Project Description

By the end of the first nine weeks, it was very obvious that Londyn was having trouble reading. Her constant struggle was causing her to develop a hatred for reading. Reading practice at home was almost impossible. By the time she got through one page she would be so frustrated she would refuse to go on. I kept thinking that just any day now it would click for her but that never seemed to happen.

Around this time Londyn began Reading Recovery lessons with Mrs. Durbin.  Almost immediately I started seeing some excitement! Week after week she would bring home new books. Even through the struggles, she felt like a successful reader. She was able to start at her level and slowly increase. After a few months it clicked for her! This one on one instruction was exactly what she needed. This child hated reading! Now you would never know that. Her excitement and enthusiasm is seen and heard every time she picks up a book. She is one of the most entertaining readers. – Dacia Barger, Londyn’s mother
